Rain on me

I was given a brief shower today which worried me a little bit. I was fine afterwards when I got to preen near the window and watch the birds in the trees.

Sightseeing

Hi there! I've been having a good time with my new flock. They are giving me plenty of time by myself so that I can rest and eat- and I've been doing a lot of both! My mom has been taking me to the window so that I can see what is happening in the back yard. We stand at the window together for a long time and watch the birds come to the feeder.. ..and watch the mean, fat squirrel chase away the birds on the ground. That squirrel must wake up on the wrong side of the nest everyday because he even chases the chipmunks.
I really enjoy my visits to the window! My mom says she wants to take me outside on walks, but not right away. She wants to make sure I am very comfortable being on her shoulder and trust her first. She has gotten something called a flight harness, and I will wear it around my body when we go out. It has a long leash that is very light weight so that if I fall, or jump she can help me stay safe.

Up on the roof

Here I am on top of my new house. I can see trees and birds from my vantage point- it's really a nice view. I have a cup of food and water up here too so I never have to go very far to get a snack. Today I have dried peas and corn added to my food mix, and I'm munching on all of it. Yum!

My first big adventure

Today I had my first big adventure since my hatch day. My mom came to the aviary this morning to take me to my new home. She said we had to make a stop at the vets office first for my check up. I didn't like this new carrier at first, but I settled down after a few minutes.

The doctor poked me in several places during the exam and since we are in polite company I won't go into details but believe me I don't want to go through that again! He said my heart and lungs sounded good, and my weight is good too. By the time we got home I was very tired.

My mom still had to put a few more pieces of furniture up in my new house and I happily waited in the carrier while she worked, then we had a little siesta on the couch.

Later on she fixed me a plate of food and placed it on the bottom of my cage. I also have food and water in shiny cups that hang in my cage. My cage is very new to me and those big cups worry me a little bit at the moment. Maybe tomorrow I will explore a little more and see what's inside them.
Goodnight!

I'm free!

Oh I'm so happy! Today someone helped me up out of my swimming pool that I've been learning to climb out of and set me down on the floor to explore. Yipeee!

Who's this again?

What's this? The love fest between the eclectus and my mom is continuing! That bird was nuzzling my mom all over.. nibbling on her ear and preening her hair. Don't worry about me though I was out on my mom's hand getting my head rubbed at the same time the other bird was visiting. I'm really learning to like head rubs! I ruffle my feathers up on my neck and head and my mom rubs very gently- today I actually fell asleep as she was petting me.

Oh guess what? I get to go home with my mom this Wednesday!! I hear there is a new house with toys waiting for me. I can't wait!! I also overheard something about stopping at the vets office before we go home- eek..scary!!

A lovely visitor

This pretty eclectus parrot sat with my mom and me for quite awhile today. She really likes chewing on the necklace my mom made.

The pose

Uh oh.. caught!

This is what a troublemaker looks like fleeing the scene of intended trouble making!

Okay, okay.. intended visiting.

Caique

He's camera shy

Indy and Violet :)

I've been a cheeky bird and swiped a copy of this photograph from the blog of Indy's human. I hope she doesn't mind too much, but I think Indy and I look very cute together- besides it's time to post a picture of ME! What is it with all the pictures of macaws lately? I'll have to have a word with my photographer.
